The Ginkgo Ceremony Hall for Icehotel #30 / by Kauppi & Kauppi

On December the 13th the grand opening of the 30th version of Icehotel took place, welcoming guest from all around the globe to celebrate the 30 year anniversary. This winter over 33 artists from 16 countries have spent an intense time in Jukkasjärvi, Swedish Lapland, creating the new seasonal version of the world famous hotel.

”We were tremendously honored to be invited by Icehotel to design and create this years Ceremony Hall. We believe it to be a poetic and beautiful mission, to create a large scale design - designated to last only a winter. It reminds one to appreciate the moment, to see the beauty in transience and to celebrate life.”

The Ginkgo Ceremony Hall designed by Kauppi & Kauppi is an ode to nature and life. The Ginkgo is the oldest tree species known to exist and a symbol of hope, strength and love. In the ceiling, 30 shining ice stars are placed to celebrate Icehotel´s 30 years, and all creative artist and designers who contributed over the years. An open welcoming space for ceremonies, celebrations, gatherings and contemplation.

This years version of Icehotel can be experienced December 2019 until April 2020 - before the ice and snow returns to Torne River in the shape of water.
